On Saturday, March 12, 2016, six Interact Club members and our faculty advisor Sarah Manning headed back to Foothills Humane Society. Those club members included David Rivera, Damon Babb, Keri Smith, Ross Younkman, Chris Bebber and me (Sandra Garcia).
I really enjoyed volunteering at the Humane Society. I love animals and would do anything to help them as much as possible. Our group cleaned A LOT of crates and travel kennels. We rinsed them, scrubbed them with bleach and soap, then rinsed and dried them. We washed towels and blankets used by the animals. We started a washing/rinsing/drying chain to clean over a hundred food bowls at least! Helping to clean all these things helped me realize how simple it is to be a blessing to both the animals and staff. Volunteering is hard work, but it feels good doing it. One thing about serving at the Humane Society is that you see how easy it is to make animals happy.
I noticed that there are a lot of Pitbulls saved and dropped off, more than any other breed of dog. All the ones we interacted with were super sweet and happy. It made me sad, but I hope they all get adopted very soon. The staff has a lot of work on their hands with all those animals. We ended up picking up poop in the run-in areas, which was SO gross, but I know it makes a difference for both the animals and the staff.
The experience at Foothills Humane Society was really amazing and I can't wait until we go again!
